Marine monitoring goes live in Kerteminde Marina

A fun project is underway in Kerteminde Marina, where the newly revamped harbor is serving as a testbed for underwater sensors and ocean technologies.

In the first phase, we installed multiparameter sensors to measure and transmit temperature, salinity, depth, light, and oxygen levels for real-time public engagement. A growing suite of additional sensors are in the pipeline.

We hope to help locals and the thousands of annual visitors connect further with the marine environment, learn how measurements are made, and explore the kinds of variability and trends observable in oceanographic data across hourly, daily, and seasonal timescales.

The next phase will see installation of 3D-printed ‘reef wall’ panels- designed and fabricated by the brilliant team at SDU Create. Investigations are underway to understand fluid dynamics, productivity, and biodiversity associated with these submerged structures.

A big thanks to Prof. Magnus Wahlberg and harbor master Søren Aagaard Therkelsen for their continued enthusiasm and support.
