Shortlisted image at photography competition
The Danish National Research Foundation holds an annual photography competition that invites submissions from across all research disciplines in Denmark.
This year, our lab submitted an image from our field trip to northeast Greenland in August 2022. The image, taken using an aerial drone, shows scientists onboard a 10 m-long research vessel sampling a meltwater plume as it enters the fjord.
The plume forms a thin cloudy layer on the water surface, obscuring sunlight. During this field campaign, we investigated the effects of meltwater on light availability and photosynthetic production.
This work is ongoing and will continue in the next years as a key part of the DFF Sapere Aude project on marine primary production in the Arctic https://dff.dk/ansog/stottet-forskning/forskningsledere/dff-forskningsledere-2022/karl-michael-attard
This year’s winners include a submission by HADAL professor Mathias Middelboe https://dg.dk/en/winners-dnrf-photocompetition-2023/
Shortlisted images will be displayed in their full glory at the Danish National Research Foundation’s annual meeting in Copenhagen in September 2023.
Our participation in the expedition to Greenland was generously supported by the Carlsberg Foundation.
